I Have a Quick Question⏱️❓🤔…How Will the New Tax Law Affect Me💲👨‍👩‍👧‍👦?

Over the past several weeks, the buzz about H.R.1—the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”—has been impossible to ignore. as expected, our office has received emails from clients, all asking that one “quick question”: How will this affect my taxes?

Well, here’s a quick answer—or several:

UGH!!!!!!

    • This is a proposed tax bill, not a finalized law. It still has to navigate votes in the Senate, return to Congress, and finally, make its way to the president’s desk.
    • Will it affect 2025? Future years? Your guess is as good as ours right now.
    • This bill is over 1,000 pages long, filled with intricate details and provisions debated by hundreds of our representatives.

Some questions are easy to ask but impossible to answer without good information and thoughtful analysis; tax laws are no exception.

What we do know is that this legislation aims to extend and expand upon provisions in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) and will have potential implications on tax planning and strategies, compliance, and advisory services.

We tax professionals and those of us who are certified in tax planning understand that many tax laws are proposed, created, tweaked in order to influence taxpayer behavior (business and individuals).  It is usually the goal of congress to create revenue neutral laws in order to reduce or at least maintain the current federal deficit.  It’s not easy, then once a bill is passed and the laws finalized many times there are unintended consequences and countless corrections.

This time the answer is quick and easy “we don’t know”.  Once the bill is passed into law and dissected; the fun and real work begins.  We’ll review the different provisions: when do they start, how will its application affect us, what can we do, how should we update our current tax plans…

Final Thoughts✨:  As the Senate takes up consideration of the bill, it may undergo further amendments. We will continue to monitor legislative updates and assess how evolving provisions may affect our individual and business tax clients to ensure they are prepared for any potential changes and update their action plans accordingly and certainly before tax season 2025.

Seems like this is another call to action, no wishful thinking🩶🌈🌥️🌤️, let’s not say “I wish I had…”,  and as always
